BEAUFORT | The former director of the Carteret County animal shelter was arrested Friday following her indictment this week for allegedly embezzling more than $100,000 from the shelter.Candace R. Christopherson, 42, of Newport was indicted by a grand jury June 5 in Carteret County on one felony charge of embezzlement.
